Windows Live ID adds Beta support for Information Cards with Windows CardSpace!

Windows CardSpace is a new way to sign in securely and conveniently into websites. And now you can use CardSpace with your Windows Live ID account! Using CardSpace with Windows Live ID means you don’t use a password to sign-in. Instead, just send your Information Card to Live ID to identify you and get signed into Hotmail, Windows Live Spaces or any other site that accepts Windows Live ID. And it is incredibly easy to use CardSpace with your Live ID. Just follow this link (here) to get going in minutes!

If you are using Windows Vista, you are all ready to use CardSpace! If you are on Windows XP or Windows 2003, you will need to get IE 7.0, our newest and coolest browser and .Net 3.0 with CardSpace support (if you don’t already have them). You will also need to add an Information Card to your Live ID account.  To install these components and add an Information Card to your Live ID account, visit the Windows Live ID Information Card management page.  Also go to that page to make changes to the Information Card added to your Live ID account.

Once you’ve added an Information Card to your Live ID account, sign in using the Information Card. You will be amazed at how easy it is! BTW, that Windows Live ID CardSpace support is still a “Beta”. We are still working on it and know a bunch of things that could be better. But do let us know your wish list; it is always good to get feedback.

Card works great. Would be nice if the Live Card would automatically reflect something of a Live Logo, similar to other plastic equivalents. Question: Will cards also support strong authentication mechanisms...something you have (the card) and something you know (a pin)?

Why does Live ID not accept managed cards? There are a number of STS's already issuing managed cards, but Live ID won't allow me to associate my account with any managed card. This makes no sense. Why should Live ID care whether the card is self-issued or managed?

Nidonocu, you need to click Cancel first, then you get to the sign in-page. After that, you'll land on the Account-page, revisit the Card Management-page and you're in ;)

Yes, it's quite strange but it works...

Doesn't seem to be working for me, clicking the 'Sign In' button and it just reloads the same page with no effect.

The usability is already better than passwords (without form filling)!  Use the "Alt-S" to send the card and the keystroke pattern becomes "enter;alt-s" and you are in.  Much faster than typing a password.

Erwyn -- exporting the card, sending through hotmail, and then importing on my home machine makes access from work and home easy.

When is LiveId messager going to support this so it is just as easy to logon on to LiveId messager?

    Cheers,

When I add an information card to an account and log in it takes me to an old msn page which says that my account was claimed by somebody else and I need to change the email address associated to the account. However when I log in with the password it works as it supposed to.

We use authenticated proxy servers at work and the Cardspace tool did not seem to work through the proxy.  I had to enable direct access through our firewall to be able to add an Infocard to my LiveID.  The Cardspace appeared to completely ignore my proxy settings.

I want to build a live search that returns the profile image in a windows live spaces profile. In other words I want to be able to view the windows live spaces users that have a profile image only but in the live search images view. The windows live spaces equivalent to the myspace browse. I thought I start by searching using the MSDN Blogs Search Engine. Please comment in my guest book if you have any thoughts!

I am facing a strange problem. I have multiple Live (email) IDs and IE displays them all in the mail.live.com login page (thanks to the sign-in assistant plug-in). But ever since the live login started EVCs, every time I enter enter my password, the first validation fails. The second attempt goes through fine.

Clearing history (the 'Delete all' clean-up) doesn't help either.

    What's going on?

The links provided don't work if you have your Live account set up to remeber your username and password.  You need to log out and then change your preference so that it doesn't remember your password.  Then the automatic process works.  (But until you do that it fails silently.)

    Cheers,

To move cards to another computer export them and reimport them.

Great news, but many sites that support LiveID do not yet support CardSpace. Why?

For example, the login site for the MCP web site does not offer an InfoCard logon. https://mcp.microsoft.com/authenticate/login.aspx

Erwyn: you can export your InfoCard and then import it on the other machine. To export/import your card, go to the Windows Cotrol Panel, then open the Windows CardSpace Control Panel applet. There you can back up cards and restore cards.

I was surprised by the need to create a personal card.  I was expecting Live ID to issue a "managed card", and to continue to enter my profile information into Live Accounts.    Now, I wonder how my personal card is impacting my Live identity.

I thought that other CardSpace-enabled sites would gain "Live ID compatibility" using a managed card approach.  Was I off-base?
