Windows Live ID Client 1.0 SDK Alpha REFRESH -- Now available!

You can now download the new version of the Windows Live™ ID Client 1.0 SDK, the Client Alpha Refresh. This release includes some software updates, and keeps us on our way to the final 1.0 release by the end of this year. As always, we take your feedback very seriously, so please let us know what you want to see in future releases by posting to our forum.

With the Alpha refresh release, we introduce the Windows Live ID Client 1.0 SDK (more briefly referred to as Client Auth) sample application Shoe Buddy that premiered at the MIX conference. Shoe Buddy demos a real application that would download shoes from different online stores into a smart client, making it easier to search. By pulling together inventory from multiple sources, the shopper has a single purchasing experience (one shopping cart, one transaction) when in reality the products come from multiple vendors. Shoe Buddy also incorporates Client Auth’s functionality to interact with Windows Live Spaces. Not only can shoppers search and purchase their shoes in the application, they can also blog about the shoes directly from the smart client. The purpose of the demo is to show how adding Client Auth to the application increases the value to both the developer and the shopper. By letting the shopper blog about their shoes from within the natural flow of the smart client shopping experience, they can easily share the details of their discoveries with their friends and family. Creating an e-mail or copying the information to IM is much more involved than automatically posting both the picture and the description of the shoes to the shopper’s blog. The shopper is now, in essence, advertising the developer’s Shoe Buddy products to their social network. Both parties win.

So do you want to play around with Shoe Buddy? Live in a Box’s 0.3 Alpha now includes Client Auth and Shoe Buddy. Live in a Box is a project on CodePlex that lets you play with the different Windows Live technologies. Check out our sample application and make sure that you tell us about applications that you build with Client Auth.

I've just been reading through the comments here as I was searching the net looking for a support number for Hotmail/Live and It's seem s I am not alone in my low opinion of MS and thier treatment of customers. I am assisting a friend who has been locked out of his hotmail account because of windows live as with many of you his password is no longer accepted and the reset process is not working, we have tried the email support and although they confirm it is a windows live problem they will not provide a link to reset the password because 1 of the 16 security questions we answered was wrong (This account is over 10 years old) and my friend who is 60 years old could not remember all the details.

It was then suggested that he should just open up another account - What about all his important emails???

We have tried calling other MS customer service lines but they refuse to call Windows live support on our behalf to resolve the issue and email support no longer responds.

This problem is a direct result of a bug in the system and they do nothing to help resolve it.
Also the only support is located on the west coast of the USA - Way to go and ignore the global users of a global product.

Microsoft's treatment of their customers is abysmal

Even accepting their need to secure the phone support for paying customers - the email support is robotic and inflexible and refusing phone help for international customers with a legitimate problem caused by them is criminal. GLAD I dumped my hotmail account years ago.

Dear Microsoft - you embody everything that is wrong with computing. I just want to be able to read my email on my mac. That is all. I don't want a calendar, or a contacts list, or anything else. I don't want the "application Shoe Buddy that premiered at the MIX conference".

Before you install a device that lets me buy footwear, how about arranging it so I can get in to my account?

How about simply fixing the nuts and bolts problems with the website . . . for example I can't edit my site and neither can a lot of people according to your blogs.  I need to edit my site desperately.  I would say it isn't very good "Office" policy or "Office" business to let this problem go on and on and on.  You're so busy adding more and more things that you're forgetting the absolute basics - people need to edit their websites.

This subject and the fact that my computer gets fraught with viruses, crashes when I use office is a huge problem.  Why don't you fix it?  Why also do you have to use Internet Explorer?  I like Mozilla Foxfire because of the virus protection.  Why do we have to disable all the Firewalls, virus protection, pop up blockers etc?  Why are there all these constant instructions how to fix this and that and those instructions don't work.

Why can't I get phone support WHEN I'VE OFFERED TO PAY FOR IT from MS Office for the free service.  I keep BEGGING to pay for it

The program you keep bragging about it horribly problem ridden.  Address that!

Why can't I seem to get into Windows live ID? it never even asks for my password or log in name. It simple reads......
"Windows live ID is unavailable from this site for one of the following reasons"
    1. This site may be experiencing a problem
    2. The site may not be a member of Windows live ID

Well what do you mean by site? I type in hotmail.com in hopes to read my email like I have done for 5 years now with no problems up until you changed everything to the new improved version. This has been going on for a week or so. Sometimes I log in with no problems but more often than not it reads the above " " Please explain or fix it please. I would use one of My other accounts but with Hotmail being my oldest email address most of my contacts email me at this one.
    Thanks Jill

Passport is jamming me up.    I set up an account which was a new Windows live ID I need to participate in a Beta.  Here's the problem and you all are lying down on your job.  I copied down the password I made.  I have it memorized  I'm not typing it in wrong but good old Windows Live ID says it's wrong. I know it isn't.  So I had no choice but to say I forgot my password, send me instructions for resetting it yada yada.  And here's where you all are screwing me up.  You won't send it. Did I mention you won't send it.  What's the hold up?  I've run that wizard 5 times to reset my password and I plan to use the same password  It's not new software or the ISP.  Because I can send from yahoo to other yahoo accounts using the same ISP in a nano second.  It's not yahoo. It's YOU.

Please send me the link to reset the password. Why are you not sending it?

I should have included the problem is that the "forgot my password" wizard says it will email a link to set up a new password and it never does.  Why is the Live ID team all asleep?  Can't you set up a bot to send the link like people on the Redmond campus must do a few hundred thousand times?

I'm being jammed up by the Windows Live ID team or its bot. It goes like this.  In order to participate in a Beta, we are strongly advised to set up a separate Windows Live ID account.  I did this.  The problem however is with the Windows Live ID team and their product. I put in a password carefully that I always use and emailed it to myself. I have checked the password ten times over yet it is rejected for this new account.  So I was forced to go through the wizard to setup a new password (even though I fully plan on using the old one).  Also there are instructions which are wrong which say you can setup a password from the link to "forgot my password" by using a zip code and there is no place for this in the wizard.  I emailed for support and of course got no response.  I also left a message in Sarah's VM with all the info and contact information.
